Donald Trump Teases Major 'Deals' Announcement at the White House

14 November 2017

US President Donald Trump said Monday he will make a statement on North Korea and trade issues following his return to Washington from Asia this week.

During his meeting with Vietnam's president, Tran Dai Quang, Trump offered his deal-making skills to mediate disputes in the South China Sea.

But, the Vietnamese leadership will not allow the special relationship with Washington to destabilize the country's delicate ties with Beijing.

China claims almost all of the South China Sea, one of the world's busiest waterways.

According to Trump, those deficits are all the proof necessary that America is being snookered, and that current trade arrangements should be dissolved and renegotiated. A symbol of mutual goodwill was the opening of a Vietnam-China Friendship Center.

The US Navy has been conducting warship passages near the islands to challenge China's claims that the islands are in its territorial waters.

Of course, former president Barack Obamas vision for USA foreign policy hardly pleased every ally in Asia. China is known for its long-term planning, such as its five-year plans and even a plan into 2049, the centennial of the People's Republic.

But both sides have been treading carefully. "Because over a period of years, they will be treating us much differently than they have in the past".

But wait, the president might protest, that's not right-his businesses may not buy things from his customers, but the Trump Organization buys things from other businesses, and those businesses buy from other businesses, and sooner or later the money winds its way back to his customers. The United States habitually racks up $500.0-billion annual trade deficits with China.

Trump made trade a major part of his message in Asia, and his tone grew more bluntly nationalistic as the trip wore on.

We'll handle Sean's situation that way we always handle the injuries: if he's ready to play, he'll have a chance to play. This Rams team hasn't done anything like this in almost 15 years, so 7-2 could easily become 7-7 given their schedule.

The U.S president's speeches on his Asia visit have proved to be completely consistent with his campaign promise of putting American interests first. Both represent opportunities for the diversification and multilateralisation that Vietnam is committed to.

For the Vietnamese, addressing complaints about the trade imbalance can be easier to achieve than long-standing American concerns regarding its human rights record. The U.S. will "no longer turn a blind eye to violations, cheating, or economic aggression". Trump's visit to Hanoi brought more commercial gain, with US$12 billion in orders for engines and services for the aviation and energy sectors.

Instead, Trump he blamed past American presidents.

Vietnam's careful diplomatic strategy scored highly during Apec week. In South Korea, President Moon Jae-in is stuck next to an increasingly belligerent North Korea and has already had to capitulate once to economic pressure from Beijing.

Gone was the warmth between Trump and Xi, guest and host.

“Everybody thinks that the U.S. -Japan alliance will last forever, ” said former defense minister Shigeru Ishiba, a member of Abes Liberal Democratic Party and supporter of rewriting the constitution, said in an interview last month. It has attracted positive attention from Trump's America while securing friendly gestures from China.

"You're talking about millions and millions of lives". How do you feel about Trump visiting the region? "They are exhausted. Would you like to stop in a couple other countries, because we can do that if you want?" he said, motioning to the hoard of reporters.

In east Asia on the other hand, the reaction to Trump has been to gasp at his gaffes and empty rhetoric and try to carry on as though he did not exist.
