Boston College routs Florida State for third straight ACC victory

28 October 2017

Florida State's quickly unraveling season reached a new low on Friday night, as the Seminoles were routed 35-3 at Boston College.

Blackman threw one interception in the first half, and came close on a couple of others but BC defenders dropped the ball.

The Seminoles failed to score a touchdown for the first time since 2008. And while the Seminoles deserved to lose the game by the 32-point margin they did, they were the victim of a bad call. "We have to come out fired up, focused on the game and not focused on the season and on whether we can make a bowl game or not".

And a bowl bid which looked highly improbable following a 23-10 loss to Virginia Tech on October 7 which left the Eagles with a 2-4 record (and 0-3 in the ACC) now is definitely within the Eagles grasp.

Well, this was a Friday Night Lights show in the Atlantic Coast Conference between Boston College and Florida State, a series which has gone FSU's way since BC joined the ACC in 2005, which had translated into a 10-3 edge for the Seminoles. "We're scared to lose rather than being eager to win". Even though the NCAA doesn't officially recognize its streak because of a vacated bowl win, the Seminoles have been to a bowl for 35 consecutive years, a full 11 years longer than the official streak of 24 from Virginia Tech.

And with three straight wins in the ACC, the Eagles are one win away from bowl eligibility. The slumping Seminoles fell to 2-5 and 2-4 and had to endure a crash of BC fans that stormed the field as time expired.

All of this left Addazio and the Eagles with a sense of satisfaction, if not accomplishment and, of course, vindication to the doubters going into their bye week.

"Well, that was a handsome win", coach Steve Addazio said after the game. This game meant a lot for a program for a whole lot of reasons. "But I think we were able to regroup".

"Missing short yardages in every phase they beat us. This was a great win for us".

"You know, we felt from the beginning that we had something special here, you know", Addazio said. "But there is a special chemistry among these guys". The Eagles defense held FSU to 212 yards and nine first downs.

"I feel like as a team we've just kind of really started to count on one another", Dillon said. Boston College has covered in six straight after a win and the Eagles are 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 home games against a team with a losing road record. "It was exciting, and I'll definitely remember this game probably the rest of my life". "And that hasn't changed".
