Agartala gets Rajdhani Express train that will run once a week

Union Minister of State for Railway Rajen Gohain on Saturday said his ministry has envisaged an ambitious plan to connect all State capitals in northeastern region in map of Rajdhani Express. Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy, Members of Parliament Shankar Prasad Datta and Jitendra Choudhury, PWD Minister Badal Choudhury, Power Minister Manik Dey and top railway officials were present.

He said, funds were never a constraint for realising developmental works in the region and the Central Government believes in a holistic approach for development which is not narrowed down by region-specific consideration. The Rajdhani Express will run from Agartala to Anand Vihar terminal. While the inaugural Rajdhani Express will leave Agartala at 1 pm on Saturday, it will depart regularly every Monday from Agartala at 6.30 pm, Pranav Jyoti Sharma, chief public relations officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway in Guwahati said.

The new train will cover a distance of 2,413 km between Agartala and Anand Vihar station in 40 hours, and have 15 stops in between, including Badarpur, Haflong, Guwahati, Kamakhya, New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Barauni, Mughalsarai and Kanpur. The Agartala-Delhi Rajdhani Express will be the Northeast region's third Rajdhani. The 14-coach train, with one AC first class, two AC two tiers, eight AC three tiers and one pantry vehicle and two power cum luggage vans, will stop at 16 stations in Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. He also said that he had intervened personally to provide the shortest possible route for the new Rajdhani Express so that the people of the state get faster connectivity with the national capital.
