Controversial Bharataiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sangeet Som has once again stirred up the hornet's nest by terming Taj Mahal a "blot" on India and the Mughals who built it as "traitors".
Sangeet Som was addressing a public gathering in Meerut's Sisoli village when he expressed his desire to change the history while making a blunder when he said that Shah Jahan had jailed his father.
Angry of the repeated reference to the Mughal heritage of Taj Mahal, Owaisi went a step further and said that if government wants, it can ask UNESCO to remove the monument from its list.
"Taj Mahal banane wale ne UP aur Hindustan ke Hinduon ke sarvanaash ka kaam kiya tha". What history are you talking about?
Ontario college faculty goes on strike after final offer rejected
OPSEU represents more 12,000 professors, instructors, counsellors, and librarians at 24 colleges across Ontario. Vollebregt tweeted Sunday that they'll be notifying the results of the bargaining via email and social media.
During a visit to Meerut district, the legislator from Sardhana also said the Taj Mahal was built by an emperor who had imprisoned his own father and had targeted many Hindus in his kingdom. He wanted to wipe out all Hindus from India.
In fact, Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in memory of his wife and was imprisoned till the end of his days by his son Aurangzeb. "If these people are part of our history, then it is very sad and we will change this history", PTI reported Som as saying.
Following the reports, the state government had issued a press release stating, "Tourism projects worth Rs 370 crore are proposed, under which, schemes worth Rs 156 crore are meant for the Taj Mahal and its surrounding areas in Agra".
Posing a question to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Owaisi asked can the UP government stop domestic and worldwide tourists from visiting Taj. "Uttar Pradesh government is trying to bring the history back on the right track". He was earlier accused of making inflammatory remarks during the 2013 Muzzafarnagar riots but was recently cleared of all charges by a special investigation team.
