Honeypreet confesses to planning Panchkula riots

The police said they were investigating if Honeypreet's mobile was with Vipassana.

On Friday, Honeypreet and Kaur were presented before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Rohit Watts under tight security arrangements, after the completion of nine-day police remand.

She had arrived in Panchkula, a few hours before the court remanded Honeypreet Insan, close confidante of jailed Dera chief, in judicial custody till October 23. Police said, the phone, recovered from Honeypreet's possession during her extended three days' police custody, was used by her for communication with other accused on August 25, when Ram Rahim was convicted in two rape cases and the dera supporters indulged in violence that broke out across Panchkula.

Honeypreet, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, was arrested by the Haryana Police on October 3 in connection with the deadly violence that had claimed 35 lives.

Earlier, the SIT had taken Honeypreet to different areas of Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana where she took refuge during the period she was hiding. "Both Honeypreet and Sukhdeep have been remanded in judicial custody till October 23", defence counsel S K Garg Narwana said.

Dera Sacha Sauda chairperson Vipassana Insan also confessed to her role in the Panchkula violence during questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). She ha stayed in Balluana in Bathinda district for a week at the residence of Sukhdeep Kaur arrested alongwith Hineypreet. Police said that who gave shelter to Honeypreet will also be arrested. His conviction led to violence in Panchkula and Sirsa in Haryana, leaving 38 people dead and another 264 injured. She claimed she was like daughter of "Papa". Police also believes that Honeypreet's laptop, which is likely to have important information about the conspiracy, is with Vipassana.
