Domestic Violence Awareness Month to be observed locally

Sisters Andrell and Aydrell Washington held two of several signs at Tuesday's domestic violence awareness vigil in South Boston organized by the Tri-County Community Action Agency's Domestic and Sexual Violence Program.

One in four men in the United States will become a victim of domestic violence during his lifetime.

"Nearly every person we interact with has a story or knows someone impacted by domestic violence and is grateful to have a simple way to get help for themselves or for someone they know". The important thing to remember is that you are not alone and there is always going to be people there to show you support.

"We're a 24-hour operation and we meet a lot of these clients right in the emergency room", said Raini Baudendistel, Crime Victims Assistance Center Executive Director.
