As the saber-rattling and war of words between Donald Trump and North Korea intensifies, the USA president called up the governor of Guam to reassure him of America's support. But regardless, our military is so incredible, and there's no partisanship there, believe me.
Eddie Calvo dismissed the North's statements, saying they came from a "positon of fear", Reuters reported. Guam is equipped with a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system created to shoot down incoming missiles.
President Donald Trump went on to assure Governor Calvo that Guam is safe.
President Trump also stated he is neither weak nor ineffective and will follow through on his threat of a powerful response if North Korea does launch a missile attack. "Please say hello to the people of Guam, give them my highest respect and regards, and I will see you".
"They should have had me eight years ago, or at least somebody with my thought process", Trump said, alluding to President Obama.
Calvo, for his part, struck a similarly levelheaded tone in his interview with Fox. "You can't do that with people like us".
US diplomats aren't giving up on avoiding a military conflict.
"Definitely concern was the first feeling, but then of course anger that Guam is put into the crosshairs of the situation", he said. "This is a time of threat to the United States".
Bucs waive K Aguayo after preseason misses
FSU coach Jimbo Fisher suggested a year ago changes to Aguayo's kicking routine may have contributed to his inconsistency. The Buccaneers brought in former New York Jets kicker Nick Folk to compete with Aguayo for the starting job.
More so than an actual attack, O'Neal said she's concerned about the political rhetoric surrounding North Korea's capabilities.
"Guam is more than a military base".
North Korea says its Hwasong-12 missiles would take just 1,065 seconds to complete their 3,356km flight over Japan before splashing down in waters off the coast of Guam.
Such threats are not at all new for Guamanians, and awareness among mainland Americans is simply heightened now because of the attention from the media, said Metcalfe, a national committeewoman for the Republican Party of Guam who ran for Congress in 2014 and 2016.
Beyond having commonsense discussions and drafting emergency plans, O'Neal's daily routine hasn't changed. We are with you 1,000 percent.
"I think we should get more out of this relationship than what we are getting now", he said. "We need someone with a cool head in charge".
Trump said: "It's great to speak with you".
