Former Clemson wideout Sammy Watkins traded to Rams

13 August 2017

The Buffalo Bills appear to be taking the "tank" approach to the 2017 National Football League season along with their AFC East foes, the New York Jets. That future comes at a certain cost and in the Bills' case that included wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who the Bills once considered their franchise superstar.

Watkins isn't averse to performing with bad quarterbacks. Here's why, plus fallout of who else is affected.

Sammy Watkins is Hollywood bound.

Matthews has 225 receptions out of 349 targets.

We also can't forget that the Bills traded their first round pick this year to the Kansas City Chiefs to move way down in the first round of the draft so Kansas City could jump up and get Patrick Mahomes. If guys like that, two starters including one who was a No. 4 overall draft pick just three years ago, can be dealt, then anybody is in play. Buffalo dealt corner Ronald Darby to Philadelphia for Jordan Matthews and a 3rd round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The to-do list was daunting as the Rams trudged off the field at the Coliseum on New Year's Day to end the 2016 season.

The Bills may be doing a little combination of both. "Everybody's forgetting Anquan [Boldin] last week". When I go out there and play ping pong, whatever I'm doing, I'm not throwing in the towel. To your question on Tyrod, it's nothing.

That could prove to be troublesome for Jared Goff and the offense, but even the young wideouts are stepping up as leaders in the room. If you look at his numbers and what he's done, those aren't anything to laugh at. They want to win now, but they have to know they diminished their chances. "It's our best interest".

The former Sweden striker was United's top scorer last season, hitting 28 goals as they won the Europa League, the League Cup and the Community Shield.

For now, that looks like good work from first-year general manager Brandon Beane, who was a candidate for the 49ers' opening last winter before they settled on John Lynch. Secondly, Sean McVay is the new head coach and didn't have a weapon like Watkins on the Redskins last season.

"E.J. has been a dedicated professional during his time with us, and we wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors". Watkins is all of these players rolled into one.

Tavon Austin is the biggest threat on the Rams' offense. Matthews was incredibly prolific in his first three seasons.

Beane presaged such a deal when he decided not to pick up the fifth year of Watkins' original contract.

Gaines was beginning his fourth season with the Rams and was on track to backup Kayvon Webster. But Webster's familiarity with Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' system - playing on Phillips' Denver Broncos defenses the past two years - gave him an advantage and ultimately won him the job.

The fastest player in training camp for the Eagles is also the fastest-rising skill player on the depth chart.

Matthews had been Philadelphia's most productive receiver, averaging 75 catches, 891 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his first three seasons.

Among 41 wide receivers with 100 or more targets last season, Matthews was 38th in Reception NEP, despite being 26th in targets and tied for 23rd in receptions. Beane admitted that was a consideration in dealing him.
