Dolphins' Tannehill out for season

13 August 2017

Miami placed Tannehill on injured reserve Saturday morning as he waits to undergo surgery. The Dolphins 29-year-old quarterback is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in 2018.

Salguero reports this "decision was made Friday evening made Friday evening when coach Adam Gase and Tannehill spoke about the options open to them".

Torn ACLs have become the bane of the Miami Dolphins 2017 preseason.

When asked about his conversation with Tannehill, Gase said: "It was probably tougher for me".

In five seasons with the Dolphins, Tannehill has started 77 games.

Tannehill left the Dolphins' practice on Thursday after his knee appeared to buckle in a non-contact situation. "The fact that it's him and he knows his body and how he feels-It's unfortunate for him because he worked so hard to be available for us".

Miami is now banking heavily on Jay Cutler, who was lured out of retirement with a one-year, $10-million contract.

Tannehill was coming off a career-year in his first season under Gase, completing 67.1 percent of his passes for 2,995 yards.

Tannehill will still be around the team this season, Gase said.
