United Kingdom palace releases Prince George's 4th birthday portrait

23 July 2017

The adorable photograph, which was taken by Getty Images' royal photographer Chris Jackson, depicts George as a happy young tot, smiling from ear-to-ear.

Prince George celebrates his fourth birthday on Saturday.

"The Duke and Duchess are very pleased to share this lovely picture as they celebrate Prince George's fourth birthday, and would like to thank everyone for all of the kind messages they have received".

But while Kensington Palace, the formal residence of George's parents, has always made time for photo opportunities and released pictures of George and the rest of the family, officials strictly control access to him and his sister, Charlotte, to protect them.

Since the beginning of 2016, the couple jointly earned at least $100 million and hold at least $206 million in combined assets . An important caveat: The disclosure documents make it impossible to calculate precise totals of personal income and wealth.

Tens of thousands of people turned out to see the royal family, with Prince George and Princess Charlotte an important part of the visit. In the past, Kate has released photos she has taken of the children.

Kensington Palace said in a statement: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to share a new official portrait of Prince George to mark His Royal Highness's fourth birthday tomorrow". Crisis averted! Following Charlotte's tantrum, her older brother, George, 3, got a fun surprise when he was treated to a tour of an EC145 helicopter on the tarmac.

George is joining private day school Thomas's Battersea in September, where fees cost £17,604 a year.

At one point Prince George could be seen looking around wide-eyed and clasping his hands to his face in amazement, before then trying on a pilots helmet with the help of his dad.
