Sue Bird announces she's gay, dating soccer star Megan Rapinoe

23 July 2017

"I'm gay. Megan's my girlfriend ... these aren't secrets to people who know me", Bird says.

"I think the hard part is being public about it", Bird said.

But like just about every women's basketball player, as pointed out in an interview with ESPN's Mechelle Voepel, she's subjected to the trolling over how she compares to male players - even ones who never suited up professionally. Once she figured it out, it became a "nonissue", she said.

"It's an incredible honor and I can't wait to put on a good show in KeyArena".

During the piece, Bird stated that she came out to her family and friends near the start of the millennium.

LA Lakers, Derrick Rose Have Free-Agent Meeting
Rose spent the 2016-2017 season with the New York Knicks , but had an inconsistent season on the court, and some issues off it. On Thursday night it was reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to add a former league MVP to their roster.

The world knows her as one of the WNBA's all-time greatest players; a deft passer with a sweet three-point stroke that helped her lead the Seattle Storm to two WNBA championships and nab four Olympic gold medals. "Just to be here with them - I feel like a little kid in a candy store". "I think they have the more seasoned talent, obviously the bigger names, legends in women's basketball right now and we have the younger generation names".

"I'm gay", Bird said. I have to be true to that.

"I don't really see it as an announcement, ' Dolson said before a WNBA game at Mohegan Sun Arena in 2016". She threw her hands in the air after the make, following an underwhelming performance in the 3-point contest. That is what I've got since the article and everybody has been supportive and just glad I am happy.

Seeing Bird take this public stance is a ideal illustration of how much she has grown since her UConn days. "I'm gay, who cares?'" Bird recalled. "She has never been in better shape", ESPN reports. "She wasn't going to say certain things in the media".

Among the starters selected through voting, there were a combined 12 All-Star appearances by the East. and 31 by the West. Bird almost tops the entire East by herself making a record-tying 10th All-Star appearance.
