Nitish Kumar in Delhi, meets Rahul Gandhi, attends PM Modi's dinner

23 July 2017

While keeping the RJD guessing over the possible action if deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav does not resign, Bihar chief minister and JD (United) president Nitish Kumar on Saturday clarified to Rahul Gandhi that the Congress leadership must stop defending "tainted" Lalu Prasad family, as per sources. Earlier, on Thursday, Nitish had greeted NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind on being elected as the next President of the country.

He blamed the JD (U) spokesperson for creating tension in the coalition by making tall assertions "to remain in the media limelight".

Hitting back at Siddiqui, Bihar JD (U)'s chief spokesman Sanjay Singh today said, "A man who has been pushed from number two position in the RJD in the past to number five minister today is actually expressing his frustration". The Bihar Chief Minister is coming to the national capital to attend a dinner hosted for outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee.

As reported by NDTV, which quoted anonymous sources, both the leaders specifically held a discussion about Lalu's elder son and Bihar's chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, against whom CBI has registered a complaint in an alleged corruption case. The party said Nitish will also attend Kovind's oath-taking ceremony on Tuesday. Nitish Kumar shares excellent personal relations with Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and also with senior Bihar BJP leader Sushil Modi, who has been at the forefront of attacking Lalu Prasad Yadav and his children.

Trump Troubles: How long before Sessions calls time out?
The Trump administration has gone completely off the rails, and the odds of impeachment seem to increase with each passing day. At one point, Sessions privately told Trump he was willing to resign his post , but the president did not accept the offer.

Nitish again refused to talk to newsmen on the issue after an official programme of the state government here on Friday. When asked if he would resign if Kumar wants, he said: "I will do whatever my party decides".

Rahul had been overseas when Nitish had openly expressed his displeasure with Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad's remarks doubting his intentions in backing Kovind.

"Tejashwi met Nitish Kumar after 11 days of CBI raids conducted at his residence".

With the RJD not in a mood to agree to resignation of Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who is facing corruption charges, and sections in the Congress lending their weight behind Lalu, a section in the JD (U) feels it is not time, yet, for them to burn any of their bridges.
