Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, Red Bull rumours

08 July 2017

Max Verstappen sat alongside Sainz in Thursday's press conference and said he would welcome the Spaniard back as a teammate, even though Horner has already confirmed both Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo will remain at Red Bull next year.

"My target number one is to be with Red Bull next year and start fighting for podiums or wins or whatever they are fighting for next year and I'm going to keep pushing for this", he said, in response to claims that he is being linked with a number of teams including Ferrari.

"What I said is a fact: in 12 years of Toro Rosso, no one has been a fourth-year".

The 22-year-old Sainz's contract was set to expire ahead of 2017, but Red Bull picked up an option to retain him.

"I have to wonder about his behaviour", Marko added. "I'm not stupid, I see what happens, how everything developed".

'We've exercised his option so he's under contract and we have an option on him for next year and the year after.

Moreover, no driver has ever spent more than three seasons at Toro Rosso. I owe to Toro Rosso and the people there everything I know in Formula 1 at the moment, but I have ambitions and the ambition is to be a Red Bull driver one day.

Christian labelled your comments as "disingenuous".

"It's no problem, I can talk to them - about Red Bull, my devotion to the company, about what I want to achieve".

"You don't bite the hand that feeds you", Marko told Sky Sports. "We have an option on him for next year and the year after, so he'll be in a Toro Rosso again next year".

"You have to remember that he only got an oppotunity to be in F1 because of Red Bull investing in him in the junior years, and it is a little disingenous to be making comments like that when a lot of investment goes into these guys to give them the opportunity". As far as I know, and as long as I have been in Red Bull, the driver doesn't decide what they are doing with the contract.

"I think he should concentrate more on his racing".

The Independent reports "pit lane sources" have told the newspaper it is only a matter of time before Verstappen walks away.

Sainz Jr. nonetheless still maintains an unprecedented fourth campaign with Toro Rosso would represent a "strange" situation.
