The party of Lincoln has become the party of a liar.
Trump supporters complain that Mueller is a friend of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, fired by Trump last month.
It all started when Trump tweeted: "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!" Comey credited the tweet with his decision to leak his detailed memos of his interactions with the president to a friend, who then gave the information to the New York Times for publication.
That hasn't stopped President Donald Trump and his associates from repeatedly trying to draw unflattering attention to their relationship, insinuating a personal bond they suggest could disqualify Mueller from credibly serving as special counsel in charge of the Russian Federation investigation.
Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Admiral Mike Rogers met separately last week with investigators for special counsel Robert Mueller and the Senate Intelligence Committee, according to CNN.
In Friday's Fox News interview, Trump also suggested - in confusing language - that a third party, possibly another arm of the government, could have recorded the conversations without his or Comey's knowledge.
Comey told senators that he hoped Trump had taped their conversation and would, in turn, release them publicly.
The White House said Thursday that Trump does not intend to fire Mueller.
'Yet to decide on political foray'
He pledged Rs 1 crore for the same and told the farmers that he would forward their request to Prime Minister Narendra Modi . Subramanian Swamy indirectly took a dig at Rajinikanth who recently expressed his intentions to join politics .
Trump, who spoke to the network Thursday at the White House, touted the recent Republican victory in a Georgia special election.
The Kremlin has denied USA intelligence agencies' conclusion that Moscow tried to tilt the election in Trump's favor, using such means as hacking into the emails of senior Democrats.
When Narendra Modi comes calling on Donald Trump Monday, one can say "with a high degree of confidence" in spook lingo that the POTUS would face at least one question about Russian Federation. Donald Trump, on the other hand, made the false claim that he possessed tapes because he understood the power of merely making the suggestion that recordings exist.
Trump repeatedly refused to say whether he believed Mueller would have to recuse himself from the inquiry.
When the House passed its horrendous healthcare bill, Trump held a photo-op press event with House members, in the Rose Garden, singing the bill's praises.
Meantime, Trump has been firing off one angry tweet after another, calling the rapidly expanding probe "the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history".
Instead, the president explained in the television interview, his tweets were referring to the possibility that anyone could have taped those discussions. This is not what the president of the United States should be.
In his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey described Trump allegedly asking for the director's loyalty during a private dinner on January 27.
