TCU to meet Florida again after 9-2 College World Series win

25 June 2017

Florida is batting a meager.200 (19 for 95) with 10 total runs through its three College World Series games, falling prone to the same offensive slumps that have sprung up all season.

The Gators (49-18) have won their first two CWS games for the first time in four appearances since opening 3-0 and reaching the finals in 2011 for the second time in school history. Wade, Zach Humphreys and Evan Skoug are a combined 3 for 29 in the CWS.

After they struggled against Florida's pitching in the first meeting, TCU came back on Friday and scored nine runs and really let their actions speak for themselves. The Cards hd two runners on with two outs, but McKay struck out to end the threat.

Down 2-and-0 when he entered, Rubio got two strikes and induced a chopper third base but it yielded a run when the Gators couldn't turn a double play.

Mitchell Traver releases a pitch against the Florida Gators in a 9-2 TCU victory. "Coach (Bill) Mosiello preaches it". "Obviously, the story tonight was Sean and how well he pitched out of the bullpen for us". "Obviously we've got our number one going". "I started to think after he was punching us out there so much, has there ever been a 20-stirkeout game in the World Series?" He maintained that middle-away approach Friday, helping him collect a pair of hits.

"It puts everything into perspective, you know, " said TCU Head Coach, Jim Schlossnagle. I don't really care what happened in the past somewhere.

Skoug, of course, is the most unsafe power hitter in the lineup, with a team-best 20 homers and 71 RBIs.

Jackson Kowar (12-1, 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 11 K) suffered his first loss of the season.

He said such acts were part of attempts to demoralise police "but these attacks have not affected the force". The led to an altercation, causing Pandith to fire three shots from his service revolver in self defence.

The first batter he faced: national player of the year Brendan McKay. Skoug would surely be satisfied with that kind of outcome.

Both teams started slow offensively.

Skoug was 2 for 13 in the CWS when he came up in the sixth inning with two outs and the bases loaded. Zach Humphreys pounded a double to left-center, called a ground rule double, when it bounced over the wall scoring Wade and giving the Horned Frogs a 2-0 lead. That put the Frogs up 8-2. "But I'm never going to stand behind a camera and blame an umpire". And that was huge. It'll be a rematch of aces: Alex Faedo will pitch for Florida, and Jared Janczak will take the mound for TCU.

To stay here, they must do something they have done just once: win an elimination game in the CWS after losing to the same team the previous game. That was a formative experience. Had it been reviewed and overturned, the Beavs probably would have earned two more runs and we're looking at a very different game. Offense is contagious, and confidence can carry over to the next day.

Still, Kowar got himself out of a two-runner jam in the fifth - despite throwing 30 pitches in the frame - and off to the bottom of the inning they went. Last year, there were 10 in 17 games. I hate to make a change this late in the season. "I think, Monday, we were a little bit tight, maybe pressing a little bit".

"But our recipe for success the whole year has been starting pitching gives up three or less, three or four runs, we've got a chance".

"He didn't have his A stuff today because he can usually run the fastball at mid 90s", Skoug said.
